I've got Beaucoup Fish and is excellent. Any other good suggestions of albums from these guys?

Thanks

their first, entitled 'Second toughest in the infants is their best, IMHO, but all are good, and worth the money - Go Buy !

Dubnobasswithmyheadman(!) was their first album iirc. Personally i like "Dark and long" best.

They are all pretty good in my view. You can't really go far wrong with Underworld.

Am i right?or wrong?
the vinyl underneath the radar is one of my favoured vinylrecords(think there existed never a compact disc)

I always had them as a singles band, so 1992 -2002 is the album of choice.

Nick; I have only 'Beaucoup Fish' (great title) and am keen to investigate further.

What are the first two albums, beloved by yourself?

P,

I've just ordered those 2 from Simply Vinyl.
The only drawback is that I will only be able to pick them up in December when I visit the UK. Posting them out here would be v.expensive (South Africa).

I could get them now on CD but the craving for vinyl.... (only recently got my ARO and P-75).

Beaucoup Fish will have to do me for now.

I really dig Faithless (some), Leftfield and Dzihan and Kamien. Any other recommendations along these lines?

Cheers

Congratulations B - They really are lovely thick pressings and sound absolutely superb.

Hve you tried The Thievery Corporation?

The Mirror Conspiracy and The Richest Man in Babylon are both superb pressings. Richest is on 4 slabs of 200gram vinyl. Expensive but well worth it.

P,

Yes indeed, I forgot T Corp! I have got Richest Man on vinyl (nice and chunky stuff) and yes, it's brill. It's a good job one doesn't mind getting up to swop sides a lot hey!?

I have not got the Mirror Conspiracy though so will have to check that one out if you recommend it. What I try to do is listen to stuff on CD at one of my local stores (you can listen to anything you want in a booth) and then decide if I'm going to get it on CD there, or try to source it on vinyl in the UK and hold out till I can collect it.

Other very thick modern vinyl I've come across is that of Beck: Odelay and Everything But The Girl (the drum and Bass styled stuff they did - excellent).

cheers

I've an '83 12inch of 'Doot Doot' from their pre-Underworld days back when they were a symbol (pronounced 'Frur'?) long before His Short Purple Highness did the logo thang. It's pants.

Or did I just dream all this stuff?

Frur?

I remember quite clearly the first time I heard Chemical World by Blur and for some strange reason imagined them to be Frur.

Must say I was mightily disappointed when I finally saw who they really were. Not quite the Biba Era Kensington Market Glam Rock weirdos I had 'em down for.

Still.

Good record though

J, You are correct, I think it was Freur 'Doot Doot', and it was quite poor!

Sorry, rewind a sec - Underworld are the same people as Frur?

Basically, yes - Karl Hyde & Rick Smith etc.

Having just played it I'd like to retract my 'Doot-Doot is pants' comment for a couple reasons. Firstly acid house hadn't happened so failure to totally misunderstand and abuse the nature of electronics in the back line was to be expected. No. 2 and this almost but not quite excuses the A-Ha style backing vocals, the song starts with the lyric, 'What's in a name...'

Did the respected Brucie subconsciously know that when starting this thread?

I liked 'Doot Doot', but always felt it was overshadowed by the magisterial 'Da Da Da' by Trio.
