Any body know if thw Passat is due for a facelift in the not to distant future?

David I can't put it any plainer:-
Facelift: © Volkswagens AG VOLKSWAGEN trade wind and Sharan of pictures click for photo series Actually now or at the latest in the next spring a new trade wind would have been due, but Volkswagen boss Pischetsrieder decided to shift the next generation around approximately one year on 2005 in order to entzerren the life cycles of the two most important Volkswagen models - gulf and trade wind -. Therefore it, like reported, gives to new model year with the trade wind only a small Facelift. Also the Wolfsburger of a small fresh cell cure submitted the Sharan, on whose future is still not at all decided. With the trade wind the outside mirrors now equal in size with integrated turn signals are the most remarkable changes, with which to the current VOLKSWAGEN-CI adapt the middle class sedan and naturally also the combination. Against surcharge there is a heatable windshield now - an extra of doubtful practical importance. More interesting, anyhow for recent families, is the front seat passenger Airbag in the future disconnectible by keys; the appropriate control light has VOLKSWAGEN, more beautifully than in other series, into which roof sky integrates. Finally there are two new external colors named "nordischgruen metallic" and "samoarot perleffekt". Translation from BabelFish.

Even more plain: there'll be a new one out in Germany next year, probably in September, with the wagon to follow approximately 9 months later. It'll share components with the Golf platform, with substantial money spent on the interior which is said to be class-leading as the Golf IV was and the Golf V isn't.

or you could buy an Audi which has a similar engine and chassis but is a lot more expensive

Nonsense. Skodas share a lot of components with VW and not very much actually with Audis.
One of the main points of differentiation between VW and Skoda (besides the quality of the interior plastics and fabrics) used to be sound insulation. Skodas used to be about 3 dB noisier than their VW counterparts and thus much more fatiguing over longer journeys. However, with the latest Octavia, that no longer seems to be true, the Octavia coming out about on a par with the Golf or even a bit (1 dB) less noisy than the Golf in most tests. It'll be interesting to see if Skoda will be allowed to do this with future models.

Buy a Skoda, stick an Audi badge on it and see if anyone spots the difference. I'm betting 50/50.

All the VAG products share many of the same chassis. You choose the design and finish basically. I think at the moment the Seat have the edge on the smaller cars.
Audi are over filled with "extras". Drove an A8 4L diesel Friday its like a "jukebox" in side took 15 minutes to change channel and lower the volume of the radio. Their salesmen are a bunch of snobs too, one even tried to deny one of their cars was a Golf underneath.

VW Passat,
I had to tow a friend's VW Passat home today.
He is away on business.
She has just filled his Passat with petrol
It's a diesel model.
How much is this going to cost to fix.
I've told her to buy the shortest, see-through nightie she can tomorrow, and hope for the best when he gets home.
Cheers

Not likely to cost much unless it was run on petrol.
Agree about Audi dealers being offensive snobs. My car was sold to me and is serviced by a bunch of petrolheads who just love cars. Makes all the difference.

Don,
You could be looking at the thick end of £130 to £150 pounds depending on the dealer. Take it to a small garage and save money!

No way!
Skodas are unreliable in comparison with their genuine German Audi/VW counterparts.
I'd happily take a match to the Octavia I drive as a taxi...
Regards,
Steve.

Having taken a match to the Octavia (110 bhp) I'll find something else to drive with more power so I can be an even bigger nutter.
The 130 bhp Passat would be very nice, but I'd settle for an equivalent Focus.
Improved reliability/spare parts availability will also ensure that I'm on the road more to keep guys like you awake

No you have to leave me in my dotage , can't stand to much noise and speed now days
How about one of Rana's Sports models 182 or 225 BHP OR THE MIGHTY V6 It would be a bit tight for your Fares, but just think how quick you could get round Brum , and turn over the punters

Thank goodness I don't drive around Brum very often.
If a Brum job comes in I try to get out of doing it...
Unless it's to take someone to the airport along the Toll
It's nice being allowed to use that stoopid bus lane though - I'm the only thing on it.
As much as speed is both fun and financially rewarding (as long as I manage to continue avoiding the various methods of detection) fuel consumption is also top of my list of priorities. Diesel it has to be.
