I thought that most of Oz's wildlife was designed to kill you.

Don't most of the world's most poisonous snakes/spiders/scorpions etc come from there?

Do not forget the jelly fish and the sun (no not the newspaper) and the red centre

That's why I intend to avoid Australia like the plague and go to New Zealand instead.

Arrived back in UK thursday, posted courtesy of hotel internet freebie. Sydney in particular is great, really lovely city: very clean, very friendly people and particularly cold beer. It is winter over there, like a good spring over here ( as I think you know ).Few days in Brisbane: less sophisticated but still quite nice.

Best thing about coming back was picking up my 252. ( Smug-a-rama smile mode )

Not a lot of snakes/scorpions in Sydney.

Helluva lot of funnelweb spiders in the northern suburbs though, and rich people in large houses who rarely seem to get bitten. Must be some connection there.

Mike, if you left on Wednesday you missed most of the first decent rain this year, but perhaps that wouldn't be a novelty for you.

Did your kids find any koalas?

I'll be coming to Sydney later in September and it ALWAYS pours with rain when I'm there. In fact, friends are begging me to come out as they say rain is desperately needed!

Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

caught a bit of rain, was in Brisbane for a few days. the kids got a good dose of koalas: Taronga Zoo, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary ( able to hold them in Queensland ) and another place that escapes me. Topped off the hols by feeding wild dolphins in the sea at Toomomba ( sp? ).

Great place, top beer too.

Blythe, If that's the case you'd better get the spikes on and get over here mate.

It just doesn't rain on the east coast any more, the dams are drying up & the government's even talking about desalination plants if things don't pick up.

A bit different to the TV pictures I saw this week of floods in Cornwall and landslides in Scotland.
