Fantastic Music Catalogue Software for Mac OSX

Posted by: Johns Naim on 21 November 2004

Greetings All

If like me, you love your Mac, and have been wanting/waiting for an OSX orientated app. for cataloging your collection of CD's and DVD's AND books etc, this app. looks to be the business.

I've only just discovered it, and am unaware if others may know of it already, or even if it's been available for long, but the ability to use an iSight, as well as an Bluetooth wireless barcode scanner are huge pluses - especially if you already own an iSight.

The interface is all intuitive Mac - just like iTunes etc - in a word fabulous.

Check it out at:delicious monster

Cheers

Best

I tried this software some time ago.

The isight for scanning takes a bit of getting used to, out of the 15 or so CDs I scanned it recognised one.

The software is frustrating.

It won't look at itunes to see what is already there, this is essential as I for instance have around 400 albums on there all with artwork, the only way to get this information is to, you guessed it scann your CDs.

The best CD cataloging software I have used is 'itunes Catalog'. This will create a Website for you detailing all the albums on your mac, it will scour the web for the art work and import into itunes for you.

But of course this is only for CDs.

The idea is fantastic, the implimentation I found utterly frustrating.

Good points; as mentioned I've just discovered it, and only starting to 'play' with it.

However, I have pretty much all my music collection in these litte jewel box thingies, and some 'ripped' on the Mac for entertainment purposes whilst net surfing etc; I daresay I will add a whole heap more to the Mac once I get airport express happening - the mac as a music jukebox for background tunes with guests over etc is very appealing.

However the other day I bought some CD's, only to discover when I got home that I already had them in my collection! - so it is becomming a bit hard to remember every disk one has - the idea of being able to catalogue them, and download that info to an iPod as well (so as to have your library 'with' you when you go shopping) is very appealing.

And of course the other near necessity is a complete list of ones library for insurance purposes - most companies seem to insist on this for hassle-free replacement in the case of loss/theft. This of course applies equally to my burgeoning collection of DVD movies...which this app. also purports to be able to do. Oh, and books and games as well.

Hence my interest in this software.

Have you found anything superior for the Mac with this usuage in mind?

Best Regards

JOhn I have to confess that to date I have found nothing that will simply catalog cd names, in my mind this is very easy, just insert disks, let it recognise then eject.

I guess Tom Alves has done this with the links at the bottom of his posts.

For the mac however it seems you have to import the CDs in order to get any where, apart from this software you are playing with.

So for now it might be your only options.

I will check the web later to see whats new out there.
