What is your favourite single release (7 or 12 inch)?

Mine is 'Have you ever seen the rain' by Creedence CR.

I've got a very soft spot for "Higher Ground" by Sasha on Deconstruction - reminds me of some good parties...

It's obvious, but it has to be Strawberry Fields Forever, of course.

Probably Waterloo Sunset - Kinks,
but could also be 20th Century Boy - T Rex, or Good Vibrations - Beach Boys or Happy Together - Turtles (cringe - I know, I know, but it has associations)

'Hilly Fields [1892]' by Nick Nicely.

When I first heard it, I just thought this was the most wonderful thing since 'Strawberry Fields' [which it closely resembles, and objectively surpasses - although naturally without any of the former's originality - not necessarily a caveat]. I bought it, loved it, and then stupidly sold it [at the same time that I got rid of the rest of my vinyl [Day of Shame really doesn't cover it - I'm in therapy as I type]. Since then, it seems to have become a little perfectly formed cult all of its own [try Google] and even has a web page:

Slightly higher-tech OTT pysychedelia that bops [& predates by several years] XTC's Dukes of Stratosphear on the head. Whatever your misgivings about peer to peer sharing, this is the kind of stuff that makes Kazaa etc. worth defending, nay enshrining, as an essential plank in the Continuing Preservation of Our Musical Heritage. The B-side is also scrumptious - '49 Cigars', I think .... Mr Lees will doubtless supply details, but then his singles collection is worth Lottery support as a Kentish extension of the British Library - and to think he can never be bothered to play any of them because a] they're in another room, and b] it means fiddling with the belt of his Sondek. It's an audio Griff Rhys-Jones/Restoration - type situation. Frankly, I can't decide if I'm Ptolemy or Marianne or Howard Carter, but I'm tempted to buy him a Richer Sounds cheapo Philips CD recorder just to get at his neglected treasures.
