Hi,

I'm posting to this board from Tokyo!! I went to Akihabara again and found a rather interesting department in a store. This department stacked a load of valve amps - many from very small home-grown manufacturers (such as "Spark").

There's a cute little gold one selling for 150 pounds - less than some people would spend on an ornament! It even has a separate power supply. I'd consider buying a UK compatible one but am saving for a Hi-CAP.

Here's me wishing I brought a camera to send a piccy of a shelf of these amps... some are even painted British Racing Green.

Hi Andrew,

If you revisit Akehabara, check out Yamagiwa's on the high street. It is about 5 minutes walk from the subway station.

They stock:

Boulder, Goldmund, Levinson, McIntosh, Krell, Revel, Martin Logan, Audio Physic(Acoustic Lab?), Elac, Sony SACD, Linn, Wadia, Clearaudio, Stax, Sennheiser, AKG, B&O etc, etc.

You will need to climb right to the top of the store to find this Alladin's cave. I spent several afternoons there when I was working in Japan. Each visit I expected to be blown away by the megabucks systems that they had on offer, and each time I came away feeling rather smug that I preferred my 10K Naim system to theirs costing the equivalent of 50,000 GBPS or more. But it is interesting to hear the competition!
