Get hold of a Mac version of Mozilla and use that for browsing and mail.

Don't Spymac have a free 1gig webmail account? Also, I have a bunch of gmail (Google's 1gig webmail) invites if you want to go that route.

PM me if you do
Posted on: 24 October 2004 by JonR
Thanks for the offer, Mekon.

I assume "Google's 1gig webmail" as you put it means a gmail account with a 1gig's worth of web (storage?) space as well?

I will indeed PM you if interested.

Don't do google Jon.

What's the issue with Google, Gary?
Posted on: 24 October 2004 by Paul Hutchings
I'm very wary of gmail, it's not so much that I think google have "sinister" motives, but it's the whole targeted adverts thing.. like the bloke who got sent a bunch of dirty jokes by his mates and found that gmails targeted adverts were offering a selection of specialist rape and sexual harrassment lawyers etc..

Jon, its simply a way for google to send you advert upon advert.

Jon you will have free online webspace with your account as well. Once set up you will be able to store pictures etc on your webspace, or use it to store important stuff incase your harddrive goes south.

Remember there is nothing in life free, google will be reading everything you get on that email and everything you send on that email and selling it to third parties.

No thanks.

Well if you put it like that, it seems cut and dried to me!

Congrats on the arrival of BB Jon. It's even coming to me in about a month (allegedly).

I'm continuing with BT, and hope to be able to get a 1Mb service for £30 a month.

Any thoughts on the BT BB service anyone?

Thanks, John.

Actually it's nice to know I got in ahead of one or two other Forum members out there!

I use BT Broadband and it seems to work fine. Had a small issue when our local exchange was being "upgraded" to accomodate more users and I couldn't connect for a while but all settled in now.

Speed increase is very worthwhile !!

Unfortunately I can't get broadband here so I'm patiently waiting for BT to roll out their National wireless broadband service. Sometime next year apparently.

Allan,

have you tried agin since BT removed most of the distance restrictions on ADSL?

cheers, Martin

Martin,

In the past I've applied for broadband and been turned down straight away due to distance limitations. Last time I tried was about six months ago and was accepted subject to a line quality check. Unfortunately the line quality check failed. Due to the light density of housing where I am it's unlikely that cable will be installed anytime soon (if ever) so the proposed wireless broadband service is probably my best hope.
