i thought you were lying

whenever i have asked you lot about upgrades, the advice has almost always been "get a hicap, stupid". i chose to ignore this because £500 for a power-supply is silly, just ask my girlfriend. so i upgraded my 42.5 to a 72..... and was disappointed, it was a bit better but hardly a quantum leap.

why was this, i asked you all, and the reply was, "get a hicap".

my hicap arrived this morning.

i honestly didn't think it would be much of an improvement over my dual-railed snaps because it's only an expensive power pak. truly, i thought i would be very disappointed and have to sell it immediately.

but i was wrong.

very, very wrong.

i have just spent the last couple of hours listening to tunes and not quite being able to believe my ears. i loved the way it sounded before, but the hicap has transformed my system. everything is better, the treble is crisper, the bass deeper but more tuneful and faster, the soundstage extends to my garden and goes up and down - which never used to happen. it makes me smile just thinking about how unbelievable my system sounds now.

so now i upgrade my nap 90 to a 250, right?

And what does your girlfriend think now?

I originally thought along the same lines when I had a 102 - no way can a humble power supply improve the performance of the 102. I was lost for words when I plugged it in. One of the best value for money upgrades there can be.

seth - she still thinks i'm silly.

as regards sbl's and a 250, i generally tend to upgrade once a year so my quota has been met (and passed) for 2004.

the plan is to get the 250 early next year and then save up my pennies for a lingo'd (i need to play 45s!) and aro'd LP12 in 2006.

then SBLs in 2007.

lovely.

There's nothing wrong with long-term strategic planning... that a good woman can't turn on its head in a moment. Smile

As you sit there transfixed by the music, slip off her socks and rub her dainty feet. (This is where having a remote comes in handy.) She will realize that there is something in this stereo nonsense for everyone.

About this power supply "nonsense"...

I remember reading here a few weeks ago that what we are listening to with a hifi is modulated mains.

Made me think anyway Wink
