Phono cartridges in Tokyo

Posted by: Jorg on 30 August 2004

I will be in Tokyo at the end of September and I was wondering if that would be a good place to look at and maybe buy a cartridge. I would be most interested in Koetsus (something rosewood) and maybe Dynavectors (XX2 or so), depending on the prices. Are there good places? I would appreciate your advice!

Hi,
I think there are two or three shops you could try, all in Akihabara, so easily accessible:

Tereon They have Dynavectors (the only place I have seen them in Japan)

Dynamic Audio 5555 The two top floors are worth a look for the monstrously expensive stuff on display, plus the B&W 'shell-like' speakers. Not sure what cartridges they sell, though.

Yamagiwa (can't find a link for the shop) There are several in Akihabara, but audio is on the 7th floor of the biggest, which is on the right as you come out of JR Akihabara station.

All these are on the same side of JR Akihabara station, if this is not obvious in the (Japanese) maps.

PT me if you need any extra help in Japan.

Cheers,
Peter

I recall XX2s coming in at around £330 2-3 years ago in Japan (£999 in the UK)

Are Japanese prices still low, I heard that they had increased and were no longer the bargain they once were

I am coming to the UK (Scotland and Yorkshire, actually) next week. Anyone want to put any orders in? Wink

Not sure about prices now, though Confused my 10x4 was c90GBP two years ago.
I'll check.
