Why we love MTB/Cycling
Posted by: Naheed on 06 June 2004
Alright i think its safe to assume there is a portion of forum members who enjoy either Mountain biking or Road Cycling, etc...
Well after another hard but enjoyable day in Epping Forest (eating flies) cycling, i thought it my be interesting to hear why we like it
Well for me its
1. The leg burning ache at pushing yourself that bit harder every ride
2. The solitute
3. Nature, especially early morning when no one else is around
4. The cycler socialising
5. The resilience to ride whether its hot/cold/raining/snowing ...

Great thread !
Just about decided on my new bike after a break of about 20 years, I want to get back in the saddle :
- 1. To get fitter
- 2. To relieve the stress of the working day
- 3. To get a little peace and quiet doing what I want while my family do what they want to do without me (usually TV)
- 4. To enjoy some of the countryside where I live without driving
- 5. Did I mention the fitness aspect ?
And if I meet some other cyclists whilst riding, GREAT !

This afternoon I hate cycling - because I crashed at 35mph this morning.
During the sprint, 100m from the finish line of a race in which I was going really well right up until the moment when the bloke in front of me veered off his line and took my front wheel away. Blood everywhere - not much skin now remains on the right hand side of my body. No points and a DNF for me in yet another race this season.
I'm looking forward to a relaxing listen to my hi fi.

- The chance to scare myself witless without feeling bad about using a car/risking someone elses life.
- The way the chatter in my head dies away.
- The views, fresh air, etc.
- The feeling of my suspension compressing as I barrel into a turn too fast.

Tim,
That's rough, very rough -- I had the same thing happen to me and had road rash the length of my back. I'm shuddering thinking about it.
I hope you have a speedy recovery and can get back to racing soon.
cheers,
Dan

I took up MTB riding because running was ruining my knees and back.
I took up road cycling when we had foot and mouth and the countryside was 'closed'.
