How to delete history on search engines

Posted by: max in hampshire on 30 June 2004

Hi

Another one for the computer experts please.

My wife and I often purchase birthday/Christmas gifts for each other via the internet. We have a problem in that any search either of us enters in, say, Google is not only retained in the displayed history of Google but also appears in other search engines.

Similarly Amazon retains and displays all items searched for.

It is making a surprise gift impossible as we can each see what the other is looking for.

Can these things be deleted. If so, how?

Cheers

If you're using Internet Explorer do the following:
Tools -> Internet options -> Content -> Autocomplete -> Clear forms.

As far as I remember this will clear all your search-type lists, Google, Yahoo, Amazon etc. I've always thought there should be a way of doing this more selectively but if there is I haven't managed to find it.

I've just remembered that Google at least has its own clear function. On the Google tool bar, Click on the down arrow to the right of "Google" and you get the option.

If you are using the Mozilla Firefox browser then;

Tools Options Privacy "saved form information" Clear

Create different users on your PC and log in as appropriate.

Hi Tom

That seems to do the trick. Many thanks. A solution in ten minutes to something that has been bugging me for days.

Woody - nothing more sinister than checking out the situation re tickets for New Year's Day Concert in Vienna.

Thanks to all for the suggestions

Cheers

Max,

IIRC you're an architect ? If so, and you do end up in Vienna, have a look at the buildings/museum of Hundertwasser. Very interesting.

I hope she doesn't visit this forum, because if so, you've just blown it! Big Grin

Hi Rasher

I can be very confident that this is one forum my wife will not visit. Two years on she still cannot see (hear?) what was wrong with the Sony, Denon, KEF set up we had.

Cheers
