Not heard a reason as such, someone did say its to finish off any insurgents trying to flee the town when the us marines go in,would have thought the u.s would have used their own troops though..Instead the government use a batallion they may be getting rid of..stinks if you ask me.

Every life is precious and their sacrifice is valued more than any mere words could ever express.
I changed my post out of respect for the Brave Men who lost their lives.
I know people from Fort Lewis here in Washington State who are in Iraq. They truly believe like I do that they are fighting over there so we don’t have to fight here at home.
No one sends their Best and Brightest to die needlessly. It’s a sacrifice that we can never repay. But Brave Men step forward to defend and protect what is sacred to us and for that I am forever grateful.

.... God bless America and George W Bush
Strangely enough, I feel my health and well being is hardly threatened at all by Iran. George W Bush, on the other hand,.........

Last week The Lancet published a scientific paper suggesting that the total loss of life in Iraq to date was of the order of 100,000. This story flutterred around for a day or so. I expect the death of these three soldiers (and who knows how many more tomorrow) will make a much bigger noise.
The death of three professional young (men?) is sad enough, but without wishing to be disrespectful I think we should lament more loudly the civilians killed in their tens of thousands, men and women, children and old people. People who found themselves in harms way through no choice of their own. People who will get no flag strewn burial ceremony and who register not a flicker on our media radar.
I detest war, everything about it. I abhor our hypocrisy when we 'celebrate' and glorify our dead too. I have no doubt that our politicians will now compete to offer the most sympathetic condolences to the bereaved families and, thereby, hope to reveal their compassionate and caring nature whilst perpetuating conflict.
How many of them blinked at the figure of Iraqi dead?
Got that of my chest...
