Yet another E Bay scam

Posted by: Rockingdoc on 09 July 2004

Just to warn you of one I was sort-of involved in.
Recently I sold an underwater camera on e-bay for 1300 GBP. The buyer collected it and was very satisfied. A week later I got an e-mail from another guy asking where his camera was as he had sent 800 GBP as asked. It seems he was contacted after the auction by a third party, told the buyer had dropped out, and did he want to buy for 800 GBP. He rather foolishly sent the money to the address supplied by the third party.
He couldn't seem to grasp the idea that I wasn't involved.

I received an e-mail from "e-bay" this morning to an e-mail account I used to use for e-ay correspondance. THe e-mail asked me to follow a link and input my credit card details to verify my identity as somebody had tried to steal my user name.

I swiftly e-mailed e-bay's fraud reporting department and they told me it was a hoax and to forward it the e-mail or others like it to spoof@ebay.co.uk

I think this e-mail came after I bid for some SBL's about 6 weeks ago. After I lodged my bid I was e-mailed by a third party who told me that the sale was not genuine so I removed my bid. I think that it may be a revenge of some sort to steal my card details etc.
