Super CD5 or Normal CDX??

Anyone out who can share their experiences with me?

Just managed to sell off my NAIT 3 and CD3 and acquired a 102 and 250. CD player's my headache.
I need to buy a power supply to drive my 102 so I have to take that into consideration.
I think my options are these:

1/ Buy a CD5 and Supercap. Use CD5 and 102 with Supercap.

2/ Buy a CDX and buy Hi-cap to drive 102.

Am I way off?

Hi KC,

The CD5+Supercap is definitely a combination I am considering for next summer.

If I upgrade to a CDSII I can then re-use the Supercap on my 72 (which will be running a HI-CAP when I get it for Christmas).

This could be a more cost-effective approach than going for a CDX.

However the difference between a CD5+Hi and a CD5+Super is unchartered territory for me. Is the improvement linear or does it significantly saturate?

Andrew

Been to our dealer lately and have been disappointed with the whole setup. Wanted to listen to a 102 and was told they do not need to demo it since Naim equipment sells themselves. Huh? Talk about cocky! Anyway, listening to any system that faces a plate glass window is not my idea of a afternoon well spent.

I thought the Supercap had the ability to power 2 equipment or am I wrong?

Although the Super-Cap does provide two 5-pin supplies, because of Naim star-earthing system, both can be used only with an 82 pre-amp. If you try to use it with both a CD5 and pre-amp, you'll probably get a ground loop hum.

Get the CDX and Hi-Cap. I was very happy with my system when it was CDX/102/Hi/NAPSC/140. (It was the first platform at which I was "satisfied".) Catch you later!
