Hi there!
I've been offered a pair of "latest spec" IBL's for 800 SFr.
From the Naim history:
Improved bass driver, mounting for tweeter and stand, new internal foam
How do I differ a old from a new one (visually)?
Is it a big diff erence from the upgrade (accousticly)? I know the "similar" SBL upgrade before and after.
Are there still drivers available, if anything goes wrong?
Provided everything is O.K. is it a reasonable price?
I intend to use them later in a surroun d or second system. Hav e to build my opinion 'till tomorrow...

Unless all of the drivers are blown, this is a no-brainer!
The IBL has fantastic midrange and is a very agile performer; I used to own a pair prior to owning SBLs, and I ultimately wish I had kept them for use in a second (or surround) system. The passive crossover is a slightly modified version of that used for the SBL, so the usual suggestions about amplifier requirements remain.
Do make sure they are in good condition, though, as I believe that stocks of (either type of) the IBL bass driver may be limited (the tweeter is the Scanspeak variant used in the SBL, decoupled arrangement a la the DBL).

Adrian,
I believe that the only part no longer available are the grills. If the speakers are in good condition, buy them.
I use IBL's and often day dream about better sources, pre amps & power amps, but my IBL's are always in every dream!!!

As long as they are in good condition, get the IBL's. Get the serial number and Naim should be able to tell you if they have been updated.
I recently bought a pair of Mark 1 IBL's that had been upgraded to final spec. I paid 400 pounds, probably the best buy I have ever made, apart from my LP12.

1. chk for PAXO2 and A5
2. chk for mid/bass driver with ~1cm doped ring along the rubber end and tiny center dimple.
3. chk frame/stand screws into the lower base have no play. If damaged, hopefully well within cabinet repair.
4. of course foam grill.

I have a pair of Mk1 IBL's with the later x-over. The bass driver does not have the dimple. What is the difference in terms of sound?
I bought them ex dem for £250 including delivery. I love em, but might consider upgrading them if it's not to dear.

Which would be the better choice in a small system like the 72/140 or the new 112/150?

The answer to your question really comes down whether the system or the room is small! If the room is not especially large, the Credos don't tend to work too well. In a small room, the IBLS will be much better. The relative quality of the system will not be a problem with the IBLs either - they will not disgrace a CDSII/52etc system. They were designed to work with top line electronics in small rooms - and they do this magically.
That said, it's pretty obvious that in absolute terms, I feel that the IBL is a much better speaker, if you do not need the "space filling" capabilities of the Credo. Several comments made by JV on the old forum went to support this. I think he also said that had they still been in production, they would be several hundred pounds more expensive than the Credos.
