Blunkett - should we give a t*ss?

Posted by: Hawk on 29 November 2004

I can believe the press coverage that Blunkett is getting today... Im not particularly a fan of his, but do we or should we give a toss? IMO its hardly a crime worth all the hype, especially when there is far worse shit going on in the world... How much will the 'investigation' cost the taxpayers etc etc???

Ive often used my position to gain favours for friends, nothing in the political arena i might add though.. but im sure many do the same..

What says the forum??

Mmm - visa and indefinite leave to stay granted in 19(?)days.

Took us almost eighteen months - I should have asked Blunkett to look over the application.

It`s lying that is the issue.

There are more important things to lie about in office than one's personal life.

Lying about University top-up fees before a General election, or about WMDs in Iraq in order to start an illegal war, are grounds for impeachment in my view.

In comparison, lying about a private matter is about as offensive as coming back to your car ten minutes after your parking ticket runs out.

Steve.

Is it just me that finds the notion of a blind man 'looking over' an application form somewhat strange? Not mocking the afflicted, obviously, but I think questions should be asked.

Not aware he has had an affair, Just what is your definition of an affair.

I'm not aware Blunket has lied over this matter.

The 19 day gap is from receiving the first standard correcspondence (i.e we've got your application and it mignt take up to 1 year) to receiving notification that the visa would be approved. Pedantic perhaps but it does make a differance. What we need to know is what was the average turn around for Visa apps in this period (when the department were apparently trying to get things off the books before a new system came in).

starbuck - glad you have raised the issue of the "looking over" an application form by a blind person

I know that the Seeing Eye or Guide dogs are clever (but they do not work to as many commands as the CP dogs) but a human would be required to read through the form - the human being a Civil servant or a party worker. A misuse of one or another human resources.
