Interconnect lengths

Posted by: Phil Barry on 05 December 2000

In order to reduce disorder among the cables, I am interested in using cable lengths shorter than the standard 1 m to connect my non-Naim CD and tuner to my Naim preamp.

Major Naim sources in the US have little interest in building cables, say 15" - 24" in length.

Has anyone reading this message tried this? Any comments on your results?

Obviously some cable lengths are important. Is there anything against short interconnects?

Thanks.

Phil

...as we have Chord Company make these (in dark green Cobra 2 and grey four-core Chrysalis) for us instead.

We do not stock any other brands of RCA-to-DIN interconnect at this time, though Nordost is certainly an option (they've made DIN-to-RCA cables for us before), and they will manufacture bespoke cables for a price.

Hope this clarifies,

Hi!
I have read an article once from a guy who was making some cables himself, using all kind of different materials. After a while he found "the perfect wire" (for him) and he wrote that the sound of the cable could be tuned. He stated that about 90 cm was the optimal length; shorter made the cable more detailed, longer made the cable more warm sounding. Now to get to my point, isn't it true that Naim have chosen the length of their cables for sound quality reasons? If that's true, it would not be so wise to take shorter lenghts...
