Warm up question

Posted by: Chris Brandon on 05 January 2001

This may seem obvious to some,but not to me hence the question;

Is it ok to warm up a power amp and/or pre-amp by just connecting it to the mains,with no speakers/source connected (ie. as a standalone unit)

Regards
Chris

Yes, Naim power amps can be on with no speakers attached. However, this will warm it up but not break it in (which requires playing actual music through actual speakers wink ). Catch you later!

Catch you later!

Thanks Mike,

I just wasnt sure,especially when you think along the lines of Naim taking Speaker Cable as part of the circuit design.
But since its safe,no probs !!!

P.S. Congrats with the House Purchase.,Hope all goes smoothly !!!

Best Regards
Chris

My Densen B200/300 are like that. They need days to warm up followed by about 10 minutes or so of music playing through them before they settle down.
A well known hi fi magazine described them as "cold andanalytical". That's how they sound for the first 10 minutes. Now we know how long(un)said magazine spends on reviewing equipment before jumping to conclusions!
