Football News: Hot off the Press...

The First Division is to be called 'The Championship' from next season.

League chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney said: "The Championship' is a term steeped in the history of the League.

"Reclaiming it for our leading clubs will place a new enhanced emphasis on its status at the pinnacle of our competition," he added.

Mawhinney added: "Not only is it a gateway to the Premiership, it is one of Europe's leading league competitions, in terms of the standard of football being played, the high quality of stadia and the numbers of supporters attending."

Featuring, amongst others... Crewe, Preston, Leeds, West Ham and, of course, the Seagulls (with our current crappy 7000 capacity athletics stadium)!

WTF is going on, so now we have:
the premiership
the championship
league one
league two

Do they really think that renaming it to the championship will suddenly make people think it is great?? This reminds me of the post office renaming itself to arriva or whatever it was.

I'm wondering if Leeds are going to be able to get relegated to Div 1 two years in a row.

At long last national treasure and footballing legend Trevor Brooking will be knighted in the forthcoming Queen's Birthday list.
