Base is made in the UK and quite a bit cheaper there eg. a standard Base platform goes for about GBP80 in the UK vs. $185 (GBP128) in the US. With the recent slide in the GBP/US$ rate, the gap's got wider.

The Base stuff does work very well with Naim gear - I have all of mine on three Starbase racks - but the aesthetics aren't for everyone.

how do you rate the Starbase against the ordinary Base stuff.

I've just ordered my first platform and plan to build up a rack.

Haven't compared the two - I just took my dealer's advice that it was better and in the context of a CDS2 /52 set-up, the price difference wasn't too prohibitive.

I do know that the Base stuff destroyed both Sound Org. and Audiotech stands in my room / system (as it should, I suppose). I've never heard Mana, although as I do know one other CDS2/52 nutter in Manhattan (are you out there, Greg?) who's gone the Mana route, we should probably do a direct comparison at some point.

I have compared Base and Mana and preferred the Base. The Mana was brighter and leaner, the Base more relaxed and fuller. Both were very tuneful and articulate; I preferred the more relaxed but equally quick and tuneful Base. Others may disagree.
