Norton Firewall & BT Wireless Router Software

Posted by: MontyW on 15 November 2004

Okay here goes. I have Norton Internet Security Professional and I have tried to remove the entire programme following the instructions from the Symantec web site - I have even removed any reference to Norton or Symantec in the Windows registery - this caused me lots of problems, so much so I had to reboot from the BIOS and repair Windows XP.

The whole point of removing the firewall, is that I need to install te BT wireless network 1250 software and each time I try, it states there is a conflict and Norton Firewall is still there.

BT support told me they don't support Norton so basically 'tough'!

Can anyone suggest how I can load the network 1250 software and how get rid of every trace of Nortin firewall.

Cheers, Dave

Just go to the SysTray (by the clock), and right-click the green globe. Select "Disable". This will stop it for the current session.

For a more permanent job, right-click the globe. You can then separately disable "Security", "Personal Firewall" and "Intrusion Detection".

BTW, I'd only disable those parts necessary to get your connection working.

The Symantec "helpline" is absolutely the worst I have dealt with, in a long list of very bad "helplines" (step up NTL).
In the end I had to pay a further suscription to the bastards to get my impossible to uninstall Norton unlocked, and it still won't update properly.

Okay guys (for those who may be interested). I had to remove EVERY last bit of Norton and Symantec from my PC. I had to delve into the registry and delete any reference to Norton or Symantec. I got all my advice fromExperts Exchange. I called Symantec in the UK and they were shite!!!!!!!!!!! They referred me to their knowledge base, even after I told the guy I had followed their removal instructions to the letter! I eventually gave up with Symantec and be assured I won't buy any of their stuff again!
