Hillary Hahn Elgar Violin Concerto Any thoughts ?

Have dipped into her Bach recording, and must say that I liked it. Juvenile, to some extend, but well done...
Anybody to comment her Elgar recording ? Fredrik ? Where are you ?
Best regards, freundliche Grüße

I think she's really pretty.

Thanks, my dear Fredrik,
reading your post gives me enough confidence to give Ms. Hahn a try. Reading on, I will also try to find the Decca CD. From what you desribe this could me "my cup of tea".
Funny, that you have such a different approach to music, but your recommendations are always of the highest value for me - because there's so much between the lines.
Thank you, Fredrik !
Best regards, freundliche Grüße

I have two of her recordings - Bach partitas and Beethoven violin concerto - and I really like them. True wonderful performances. These two are among the most played in my and my wife´s record collection. My wife loves especially the recording with the Bach partitas, and I think that her recording of the Beethoven violin concerto is one of the best there is. And I have heard some. Buying the Elgar record wouldn´t be too risky! I had the opportunity to listen to Hillary Hahn in Stockholm a few years ago, and after the concert, which was indeed excellent, she signed her records in the lobby. She appeared to be a very nice and sweet young person, cheerfully chatting with people around her. Me too. Of course I could not resist buying a record from her!

Fredrik and Stefan: Thanks for the thread. I will have to get the Elgar. I have HH's Brahms/Stravinsky and I love it.
mapem: If you and your wife are fans of the Bach unaccompanied partitas, you really should check out Viktoria Mullova's recording. My personal favorite. The Chaconne from #2 was supposed to be Heifetz' signature piece, but I find Mullova's rendition much more compelling. Fredrik's comment above probably applies.

Stefan, there was a review this morning in a big Swedish newspaper of HH´s Elgar concert. Six points of six possible! The reviewer wrote that if he should bring one record to a desert island it would be this one. I´ll buy it myself today.

I'm "working" at the Elgar concerto, since a couple of days, now. HH's interpretation is not based on superficial effects, which is a most honourable approach, and forces the listener to look behind the scenes.
Some of her "colleagues" (same age, similar talents) would might have been tempted to use a more spectecular approach. But, apparently, press and audience, value HH's way.
No purchasing regrets from my side so far !
