Thread to record unsung heroes

or great bands who never came anywhere near making it
Whilst trawling through the oldest parts of my record collection at the weekend (i.e. cassettes!), I came across an absolute belter of an album that more than deserves its 15 minutes of fame on the Naim message board. It also gave me an idea for a thread - that is, to share our love of bands that you thought at the time deserved to be huge, but infact sank without trace.
My first entry into this Hall of (Non) Fame is World Domination Enterprises, and their debut / only album Let's Play Domination. I first came across these racket-mongers at the Reading Festival in 97 or 98 I think. A 4 piece hailing from Ladbroke Grove, they made a right din - think The Swans or early Mary Chain crossed with a funk band. Playing in a car crusher. The bass alone was enought to loosen the intestinal tract, but combined with some of the nastiest shards of white guitar noise this side of MBV, they were awesome. The album Let's Play Domination goes a long way to capturing them at their live best, although you will think that your stereo is broken at least twice whilst listening to it.
They were not averse to some well judged covers either - the album includes great versions of "Funkytown" and "I can't live without my radio". But it's the original material which still sounds so fresh compared to today's latest hopeless crop of totally safe noise merchants. "Message for you People", "Asbestos Lead Asbestos", and the searing "Ghetto Queen" are all classics. Incidentally, Ghetto Queen was covered by Jacob's Mouse for the rough trade singles club in the early 90s, another great band and potential addition to this thread. But that's for another time.
So, anyone remember them? And got any other suggestions?
