Exercise Bikes

Posted by: Malcolm Davey on 02 September 2004

At long last the entire household has decided to attempt to regain our svelte like figures. As First Born will be unable to deal with a normal bike an exercise bike is the answer!!

Any recommendations - and it needs to be reasonably priced (under 300)

Thanks

Malcolm,

its been a while since I looked at exercise bikes but try and get one with magnetic resistance rather than belt driven.

I have had a belt driven excercise bike and wore through the belt within weeks. The magnetic resistance bikes are more costly but are smoother and will last longer.

Eh up Malcolm

I would rather go for a rowing machine than a bike: Ergo Concept 2 is the business.

Mike

Spending money I don't have on things I don't need.

Not sure about what to advise but there is a place called Petworth House in Invincible Road, Farnborough (head towards B&Q then turn left at the entrance, it is opposite Wickes) that stock a wide range of sports and fitness equipment. They should be able to help.

We got seagull Jnr's basketball net from there.

I agree that the Concept rowing nmachines are much nicer than exercise bikes, but another option is to get a turbo trainer for your bike. I have a magnetic Tacx trainer that I put a hardtail on, and it's much nicer than the hugely expensive exercise bikes at the gym, and only £70 quid.

My recommendation is to take a selection of clothes (suits, skirts, trousers etc) along with you. Then you should test each excercise bike to see which is best for hanging clothes on. Everybody I know who has one uses it as a clothes hanger, so you might as well pick the one most suitable for this purpose. Big Grin

Good point. I can't think of anyone I know with an exercise bike (including me) that actually uses it much.

I'm with Mekon on this one !

Tacx trainer and a stock bike. When Davey Jnr. is old enough then you can all go out to the park.
