Loan Rate Rip-Off?

Posted by: BLT on 12 May 2004

I recently tried to apply for a personal loan from Liverpool Victoria as they were offering 5.9%APR. I tried several times to put through an internet application for a loan but on every occasion, upon submission, I received an error message that told me to try again or to apply over the phone. After several, unsuccessful, attempts I called the phone number to find that the rate for phone applications was 7.2%.
I then tried the same thing with Lombard finance - with exactly the same result. I may be too cynical but it did occur to me that the internet applications are made to fail deliberately so that you are forced to apply over the phone and hence pay a higher rate.

You can apply the loan application scenario to insurance (car & household) too. I have tried numerous web sites plugging in the details, blah blah blah, and always at the end comes the message "sorry this can't be processed for one bollocks reason or another please telephone us".

Quite frankly using the web to buy financial products such as money and insurance is a complete and utter waste of time.

Or use Goldfish....

Isn't it Lombard that use that bloody annoying talking blue phone? "HELLO - want a loan..." etc etc? If so, they can do what Kevin Bloody Wilson sings about in Dick-ta-phone as far as I'm concerned; that blue telephone is EVIL!
