Dyson: hype or what?

Posted by: Bhoyo on 19 October 2004

I'm intrigued by the Dyson vacuum cleaners (it's been a slow day), but reviews at Amazon and Epinions seem very mixed. Consumer Reports - the American older brother of Which? - thought they were overpriced and did not live up to billing. Anyone here have any experience of them?

Davie

Matthew,

Thanks for your response to my query. I guess it's going to be a Miele then.

Quote from the beeb

"Entrepreneur Sir James Dyson and his wife Deirdre have been paid a £17m bonus, two years after moving their vacuum cleaner production to Asia"

Enough said

Your Dyson is a lot cheaper being made abroad so you are getting the benifit as well.

Why do you think DVD players are so cheap, simple answer.....they are made abroad.

In my job (Buying) we are sourcing abroad like mad.

Sign of the times and quite honestly it is irreversible.

Mick Hi
I was hoping you wouldn't say irreversible but oh well we have to live with it I suppose, i think its a shame. Just had a thought - I wonder what people would think if Naim did the same thing. 552's and 500's being made in China! Maybe we would still have the NBL - who knows. Bet they wouldn’t pass on the saving to the punter. That’s what’s really at issue here.

Dyson's prices certainly didn't go down after the move...

FWIW I was stripping the wallpaper in my daughter's bedroom last week-end. As usual, the plaster was coming off the walls (1930's lime plaster - its happened in every room). Mrs S looked round the door to see how I was getting on, I sadi I'd nearly finished and just need to clear up. She looked at the mess of wallpaper and plaster on the floor then at me and said "I'd better go and get a Henry then".

We now own a blue one.

DON'T even think about it!complete rubbish. We are now on our 2nd dyson, a dc04, & the build quality is pants. We only bought the second one, because we thought we must've been unlucky with the 1st one, as there is SO much hype, but NO. I have so far replaced the motor,"turbo" brush (where exactly is the turbine/compressor?),handle,flex-rewind mech, wheels etc.OK,it does clean carpets, but is just awfully built.Get a "sebo",much better,& loads of carpet fitters/reps swear by them. Why are a bunch of blokes talking about their vacuum cleaners, anyway? How bloody sad is that!
