Those little ticks keep appearing next to topics on the forum and seem to indicate the enthusiasm with which the thread is received by members.

So, as I lack depth in my sense of humour, I thought I'd see if I could start a topic about nothing in particular and see if it got any ticks.

I'm going to see if I can rate this thread right away - just as soon as I post this topic.

Sorry for wasting your time.

Oh no it doesn't.

People with less than 7000 posts deserve no respect because they obviously aren't dedicated to Naim and so don't know anything about hi-fi, music or life in general.

People with more than 7000 posts deserve no respect because they clearly have no life outside this forum, so their judgment can't be valid.

Are you saying, therefore, that Arye is systematically rating every thread started by a particular individual with one star, or is an individual rating every thread started by Arye with one star, and if so is this an imperative?
Posted on: 11 November 2004 by Rasher
But this could be a red-herring Matthew, because as it depends on the motive of the person posting a single star, it needs a judgement on the thread to indicate what a single star signifies and consideration of the person who gave the star rating.
Posted on: 11 November 2004 by JonR
To digress slightly, Rasher do you realise you have exactly more than twice as many posts as I do?
Posted on: 11 November 2004 by Rasher
But you are going at a faster rate than me, so I predict that you, at your current rate, will overtake me in late December 2006, allowing for holidays and sickness.

Like "only just exact" then.

While I agree, in principal, with the points raised by Tom Alves, I have to admit that JonR's post disagreeing with him is also very persuasive.

I'm broadly in agreement with both of them and wish to award my star to the red herring, please.

Yep, something like that anyway.

PS: BTW just noticed this is post number 1234. I consider this a magnificent achievement, and accordingly have created a timetable of milestones for the next two years, in line with Rasher's prediction above.

Thus by June 2005 I will be on post nbr 2345.

Dec 2005 - post 3456

June 2006 - post 4567

Dec 2006 - post 5678

Then again....

Maybe not.

Actually this isn't the right room for an argument.

This is abuse.

Arguments are down the hall, third door on the left.

JonR -- Arye once started a thread asking who was rating all his threads with one star.

Rasher -- "But this could be a red-herring Matthew, because as it depends on the motive of the person posting a single star, it needs a judgement on the thread"

I disagree. To systematically rate a single person's threads with one star is, like all pointless petty vendettas, a noble calling. It's important not to sully such a project with value judgements as then it would just become mere criticism rather than blind, irrational hatred.

My sadly deceased younger brother from a few years back was called David, he was a Star too, and my sisters 4 year old is named Ishmael (Ishy) so life really is full of stars isn't it, or innit whatever one prefers ?
