In-ear Bluetooth thingys......

Am I alone in thinking that the in-ear bluetooth remote hands-free thingys for mobile phones are the most insane piece of technology invented ?
Why can't people just stop doing what they are doing for a minute and take the friggin' call ?

Yeah, but I'd rather see a driver using one of those than juggling their phone and double tall mocha choca latte while closing in on my rear bumper.

I'm with you on that one but better to stop the car and then use the phone.
And that's from a guy with a fully cradled hands-free kit fitted !!!

I have one. I thought it would be really useful. However I find it too much of a hassle, so I just turn the phone off now.

I've got one and think it's great!
I often turn off my phone if I'm in the car, but being self employed, and expecting an important call from an important client I will put up with the hassle.
I think they are at thier best when not used in the car. A situation when one needs both hands free and to talk. Bomb disposall....?
My son tells me there are now smaller ones available. My one is a Nokia & about 9 months old.

Mine saves me so much time every day not having to call people back. I really couldn't do without it now, and there still isn't enough hours in the day or days in the week. Just stop and take the call?!! You work for Local Government or something?
What I need now is one for the office, so I can continue working while they waste my time in my ear.

As a taxi driver I don't receive calls every waking hour to my mobile, but now and again I receive a call that I can't answer and need to respond to quickly because for example, I'm on an out-of-district fare (and out of range of the two-way radio sytem) and there is a fare that has come in nearby to bring me home again - very nice when it happens, and at least once a week it does...
Currently I use an in-ear hands-free earpiece that is usually not connected simply because on local runs, where there is a need to get out of the car to load and unload baggage, it gets tangled up with the seatbelt (I'm one of those rare Hackney Carriage taxi drivers who always wears a seatbelt despite my legal exemption from doing so.)
Moreover, with the earpiece plugged in, the ringing tone cannot be heard from my Nokia 6600 unless I've got that bloody earpiece in my ear all the time.
I really cannot be arsed to have that thing in my ear on the off-chance that someone may call me. I'd prefer to have it pinned to my shirt and be able to just pop it into my ear as and when my phone rings as I could with my old Nokia 6100 when I could hear the ringing tone through my handset even when the earpiece hands-free was plugged in, unlike with the 6600 I have now.
If a bluetooth headset exists that I can plonk somewhere in my car within reach, and just lift it up and plonk it on my ear when my phone rings, I'd be very happy indeed.
Regards,
Steve.
