Alex,
Great news for Tom. I hope he does'nt sell out, now he's got a hit album and do a duet with Westlife on the next one !
How does the new album sound by the way. Is it more of the Swordfishtrombone/Raindogs/ Bone machine vibe ? Or is he attempting anything different on Real Gone ? Loved the Alice album.
Regards,
Rod

Rod, I'm no expert. If Tom has tried something different ever I think I missed it.

So I assume its not a hip-hop album !
Has he ever done anything different ? Well when Swordfishtrombones came along in 1983 , that was radically different from the early jazz influenced piano balladry albums
All his albums since Swordfish. have pretty much kept to the same formula , but in Tom's case thats not a bad thing at all.

Nope, you're no expert.
Can I suggest you listen to the soundtrack from One From the Heart ( duets with Crystal Gayle), then Swordfishtrombones then the new one. There's more range in Waits than pretty much anyone else. Sure, it all sounds like Waits, but there are jazz songs, urban blues, beautiful ballads, semi experimental noise, Post Beefheart bawling, latin rhythms, 21st century Kurt Weil... If theres a formula its one of the most varied I can think of.
The guy's music is challenging, bold and beautiful. Tune in, doubters!
Kevin ( still buzzing from the first play of the new record. Bought it with the new REM which is soooo dull by comparison)
