Getting away from that badly policed F1 parade was awful. Underground? Forget it. Buses? They weren't letting anyone on. Taxis? All taken.
So, by 2012, Greater London will come up with a transport system that can cope with the biggest sporting event in the world?
Naaaaaaah.

I suspect that it may be held over a weekend rather than a midweek rush hour...

London olympic bid? Our village in the sticks would stand more chance! You cant park, move, bus, tube, walk, run, cycle, bike for all the filth up in the smoke. It should be in Brum or somewhere

Would a proper race track be more suitable?
Somewhere like Silverstone?
Am I missing the point here, or has someone really got it in for Londoners and wants to totally bugger it up for the thousands of people who live there; to enable a few people to whizz round the streets in their fast cars?
And how exactly would the entry fees be collected?
I think it's a spiffing idea - just chuck all the peasants out for a couple of days. They can't afford to go to a F1 race anyway.

Well, given that the starting area was immediately outside my office (good view from roof) and could just see over the grandstand from the office windows it was all rather good fun. Suffice to say the poor sods who tried to manically force there way to get a pitiful view were probably not so impressed.
Managed to get away with no major problem, at least you felt like the crush was due to in part to locals then tourists. It was incredibly loud!

I've been to one F1 GP (Monza) and christ was it loud. We arrived late on the Friday evening and spent the entire night bevvying up in the campsite on the vast quantity of Edelsdorf we'd brought down with us from Munich (and which made us very popular with the locals).
On the Saturday morning my mate and I roused ourselves and started wandering around the track, only to be nearly deafened by the sound of a Ferrari on full chat down the main straight. Not a good mix with a hangover and no earplugs...
I've also seen an F1 car do a demo lap and Knockhill and the bloody thing was lapping in about half the time of my best lap there.
