Signatures- A Personal Issue
Posted by: Lomo on 05 January 2005
Seeing we are off to a New Year I would suggest that all forum members bend their minds to the task of creating a signature for themselves. Mike Lacey is an honest man and one can't argue with his philosophy, while Berlin Fritz cojures up a new sign-off for every topic even if they are mostly indecipherable.Innit.
For my part as an Ex- supermarket manager and being surrounded by thousands of fluoro tubes to light my working life and also the illumination I propose to shed on this forum I wish it to be known that MY signature shall be....
MANY A FLICKER MAKES A FLUTTER.

For my part as an Ex to crazy women I'd like mine to be... MANY A KNICKER MAKES A NUTTER.

I would ask for huge reticence on the part of forum members before they indulge in this form of self decoration.
Even the best gets a bit "Nice to see you - to see you..... nice".
Moderator doesn't like signatures and I don't (I think) mean B&W.

Here's mine.....

Life's too short to do all the things you want, but you can have fun trying!

Yeah I know what you mean Adam. Too much tongue in cheek makes a hole.

Speaking of witty phrases there should be gongs awarded for what I think are known as the sub-editors of newspapers, the ones who do the headlines.
They don't get too amusing with the serious stuff but try this for size from the business pages.
'Krispy Kremed: big hole found in doughnut earnings"
or
"Coke bubbly as growth predicted"
or concerning the earlier than usual release of the December meeting of the Federal Reserve:
"Timely minutes stop second-guessing"
Now that's earning your keep.

I used to like my signature until somebody commented on it. Bwaaahhh!
I do admit to finding signature lists of equipment owned a trifle tiresome.
If one reads them through, one often realises that one has either spent ten times as much or only one tenth. I'm never sure which gives me the greater feeling of smugness.

I guess we like to show off a little. But its all relative, most people who are not into decent hi-fi would think me mad for spending what I have on my system, but when I look at what others are prepared to spend, it's a drop in the bucket. And you can take that premise to any hobby. But I think there comes a time you say, whoo, hold it, that's enough.
Usually when you run out of cash... now where's that card. The new VirvirVirgin one I havn't used yet.

Over the years I've used two:
The proof of the pudding... and
It's always a nice day for it
have a good one
I still like the first; the second was nice for a while but it began to annoy even me.
Decent moderation shouldn't cramp the style of posters other than to give them guidance.
Moderators certainly shouldn't abuse their postion of authority on a forum to impose their values/opinions on others.
One-liners should certainly be acceptable, and I agree that an entire paragraph at the end of each post does become tiresome.
Regards,
Steve.

signatures are crap.
even if they are funny / interesting / informative the first time, they lose quite a lot of impact after post 4523.

Then it is time to change your signature.

Steve.

Signatures can be funtional, especially given the impending demise of Private Topics.
