Faithless - No Roots

Posted by: Brian OReilly on 16 June 2004

I've just had a couple of listens to the new Faithless in the car (which is about the worst place for me to listen).

It seems, well, a little dull in comparison to the first three albums, having moved away from that signature echoey, industrial sound to something that includes shades of 70's disco ???

I'm all for artists moving forward, and I've a lot of, er, faith in this group, but although it's an interesting piece of work, something seems to have been lost ?

Hopefully it will burn in over the next few listens.

Anyone else have a view on this ?

I picked up a copy yesterday and had similar feelings when I played it in the car. At home though, after a couple of drinks, it seemed to get better. I'm hoping its more of a slow burner if not one of their best.

Many reviews have mentioned that No Roots lacks a big song in the Insomnia mould. I would tend to agree but I'll stick with it for a while. If not I guess I'll have to stick to the earlier albums for my Faithless kick.
