The CDi is a great little player had it for a while now.
I must admit though since getting the LP 12 set up by my good man Pete at Cymbiosis the CD collection is starting to collect a bit of dust.

Some turntable of mine....

And this is the piece my hifi addiction began with. I know it's hard to believe, but it blew my Linn Classik out of the water, emotionally.

Too early to say how they sound, although I must say, I'm positively impressed with lots-a things they do. And, particularly un-impressed by how they slaughter piano.

Stefan, I don't know about you but with my limited experience with different speakers, I find piano the least satisfying reproduced music. I think it was Ron Toolsie that stated that this can break the back of many a good system.

Just another thought on this, remember that Jennifer Lim Chopin Sonata from Greenhouse music that Felix brought round to my place the other day. I finally found out about greenhouse music and got a copy from them. Yes I think it is a good recording but find it overpowering (if too loud) in my room to listen to in places. Much more satisfying through the headphones though. Then again looking at the brochures from greenhouse music, unless you listen to it in a sound studio acoustic environment, then it is maybe not too surprising.


I think finding the speaker good at everything is like trying to find the holy grail.

Yes and no, Mark:
Yes - difficult to get it right (more so with analog TT, I guess), but crucial. A system that doesn't sound with piano is not for me. current status with the Hawks: After temperature and "other" adaptation, they do better, but still stand behind what the CARA (that you've heard) does with piano. The Diapason, btw, is an expert for piano (and orchestral) music. For a price, though...
The holy grail ? I'm absolutely convinced that near-perfect speakers exist. The problem will be to find them below 10 k€

I gave the Jennifer Lim CD another listen this morning. The last time I listened was when my dealer delivered my SL2's. It sounds much better now. Maybe things are starting to settle down in the SL2 department.

Whether 82-250 would be a problem with the Hawks, I don't know, but I heard the 250.1 switches off with the Diapason when played with unpolite volumes. My 250.2 gets less than hand warm and is far from sounding like under steam. From that side - no problems !
