Your Fraim racks look great. I've been enjoying your old Quadraspire rack. Even my better half gives them the thumbs up! I'll post some new pics soon.

Great - I'm glad the tip worked for you. But just to be a pain - that Nad will be having a bad effect too - not only is it powered but it is made of steel - that's double bad. You need another shelf!!

I agree, Nigel. I will be getting more Fraim later this year, so, I will move the tuner off the Fraim for now. I listen to only one station here, KVPR, public radio, which carries NPR and Classical music, so I don't need for it to be on the shelf all the time.

Which speaker is Kuma showing with the Audax tweeter? Were these designed for placement against the wall or as free standers and are they sealed cabinets or ported?

I am looking for a wall mounted alternative to my Chartwell PM55 loudspeakers (a freestanding design that used the same tweeter).

Hi Nick,

These are old Royd Seven.
I am not sure if these are Audax tweeters, tho.

Altho, they look like a pair of Kan, they are ported and best when they are placed away from teh wall a bit.

I placed them close to the rear wall as I would with the Kans, but the bass is more even when they are at least 8-10" away from the wall.

I find them crisper than many soft-dome tweeters and that they work well with an analogue source. How does the sound of the Royds compare to your Kans?

It is made by a dutch company with about 4 shops in the Netherlands called "DE HiFi Winkel", (not very orignal name). It contains some filtering BUT please be aware I only use one for the gold boxes as John calls them, I do NOT use one of these to power my Naim kit, that runs from a Hydra straight off it's own wall outlet.

Incidentally "De HiFi Winkel" is run by the designer and manufacturer of Prima Luna valve amps which have had very good press and the Ah Noej Tjoeb CD player which also has valves in it.

Seriously, the Kan I sound more refined. Those tweeter are pretty hot with the K9. I have to put 'em back now I have a different cart. ( I was told that the K9 and Seven combo would be worse than a cat fight.And he was right )

The Seven has more bass output than the Kan since they are ported but lacks decipline a bit.

The midrange, hands down, the Kan wins. But the Seven has better control in the upper bass.

They are both fun speakers but the 'Audax' tweeters need to be watched carefully.

Thanks for the interesting Royd Seven vs Linn Kan comparison. I have noted similar cartridge matching issues with my Chartwell PM55 loudspeakers that used the same tweeter as the Royds --- the AT OC9 ML/II cartridge being a good match in a Linn tonearm once run in.

OK. I'm still looking for a reasonnably priced yet decently built mains block in The Netherlands. Was just wondering if you'd found it, although you're not very well known for purchasing reasonnably priced kit

Well my Hydra is home made. I estimate it cost me about 15 Euros in parts and it sounds better than any plug block I have ever tried.
