Hi, PB, would you mind to post a piccy of YOUR s/w, here ? I'd be very curious to see the relationship between h/w and s/w with a sytem like yours (My own personal goal is always to try to balance the value of s/w and h/w. Which is foolish, I know...)

Wow indeed. I need to get me some of those cd shelves. I'm always running out of space (though I suspect you've got a few more discs than me there).

It's a really lovely setup - it must be great to have a large room - and a pleasant cliate too. I have one immediate suggestion for you - change your NACA5 to white - it will disappear against the skirting boards. And next year - get a 552 and you will really know how good the CDS3, 300 and MF7s really are.

I feel a bit inadequate showing my much more modest room, but you'll see what I mean about the leads, and also see a stool from the Chichester branch!

Following Adrian's software picture, I guess it would be quite interesting to see how other forum members manage their collections. I think I have more problems justifying 10 new CDs and the space they will occupy vs. any black box upgrade.

I think I have found a reasonable compromise for our new apartment and will post a picture once we have been moved, the shelving installed and the CDs / LPs given their new home.

No comments on placement of boxes, things will all be moved in three weeks - it's a hodge-podge compromise at the moment

Here's my storage solution




The cream coloured trays with CD's in them, in plastic sleeves, hold about 100 CD's each. The big black folders hold 200 CD's each, in plastic sleeve "pages". So I managed to get 1200 CD's in the bookcase unit, aswell as quite a few LP's and books. Of course you don't have the neat rows of Jewel cases but it does'nt take up so much space.

Well, it's actually an Apollo rack, but apart from the extra shelf on mine it looks almost exactly the same as the ones in your picture!

Thats the best setup ive seen for a long time, great room, I love the speakers, in my favourite finish too -

Though I must say, this room takes some beating (posted by J.N a month or two ago)

Huw if you go to this link CD Storage Folders You will see Case Logic does a big selection. They have contact address in quite a few places including Germany listed under "contact" on the web site.

Thanks, will see if I can find one or two tomorrow. As a matter of interest, do you keep the sleeves as well or just the discs themselves?

Huw - I keep them in a pile in a cupboard with the newest ones on top. I find after a few reads of them I don't really use them for reference anymore so they would waste storgae space in the folders.

Stoik - you can give me your CD's you don't want of you like!

The LP's I have were my collection I put together up until about 20 years ago. They have not been played since then but I see them as part of my musical history and therefore will always keep them. Most of them that I like I have replaced on CD now.You cannot beat getting those gatefold sleeve LP covers out sometimes and reading the lyrics etc.

For me it is about the music - that is my real passion and I love collecting those little silver discs. The hi-fi is the means to listen to loads of music, to experiment and try new stuff. I am just lucky I have a good system as well (and now poor).

Yes the latest Sting bores me as well - I have it but thanks!

Well after my speaker dilema of late, I decided to keep with the B&W's, guess I grew to like them a little too much in the end.

There's a 2nd Hicap on the way soon too!
