Excuse my incursion PB, those black bumps are nothing but the B&W CDM7NT's Nautilus tweeters with the caracteristic "flute" behind them, this is nothing extra and came like this.

Interested to know how you know that's a 5i and not a 5x from that picture. Ditto the p3.

The P3, maybe it's because i have one, but with a smoked plexi cover, i recognised the peticular finger hook of a Rega arm, and i have also a grey Elys...

Err.. I don't see the logic, both the i & x need a phono amp as do all naim pre-amps.

Hello and thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.

Having been a serial-box-swapper for several years (I've had various bits of hifi from Rotel, Arcam, Tag Mclaren, Unison Research) I think I've finally found the sound that I've been looking for!

So what's in my photo?

CD5i
Nait5i
ProJect Xpression with Ortofon MC15 Super II (it ain't a Rega!)
ProJect PhonoBox SE
Dynaudio Contour 1.3mk 2

Cables are:
Grey DIN between CD5i and Nait5i
JPS Labs Superconductor FX between PhonoBox and Nait5i
Chord Co Odyssey 2.

Hmm. The Nait is the (on paper) least powerful amp that I've ever owned and it somehow does an amazing job of driving those Dyn's.

Jezzer, out of interest, have you tried NACA 5 cable, I've found it makes a massive difference with naim amps.

You're quite right though, naim watts seem to go a lot further than many other manufacturers'.

Nope, Tam. I haven't tried the NACA 5 yet though I have been told it's the best choice for the Nait. The Chord's sound fine (don't Chord & Naim offer similar synergy?) however the NACA 5 isn't costly so it'll be worth a punt in due course.

The Nait is a powerful little thing but I am considering upgrading to the Nac112x, Nap150x in the near future. Worth it? Or should I wait and save for a more 'worthy' upgrade when funds allow...

You're right that of the third party manufacturers chord probably has the best synergy with naim. Also, the nait 5i has a better tolerance of third party cables than other naim amps. A couple of months back I finally picked up some NACA 5, having convinced myself that my QED cable was fine and I then spent the next week or so kicking myself for not having made the change 5 years earlier. Ask your dealer if you can borrow a couple of runs for a week or so and make up your own mind.

I've listened to both the 5i and the 112x/150x combo, and while the latter is very clearly superior, I don't think it provides quite enough of a jump (unless the 5i is really struggling with your speakers, which it doesn't sound like). However, you'll need to listen to it for yourself, because there are some people around here who have found it to be an effective upgrade to the nait.

I think PB was asking what was on the floor to the right of the speaker.

The speakers are not the 7NT's but the 804's The 7NT has a partially enclosed tweeter.

Ahhh!!! By chance, i didn't bet anything!

The ProJect look pretty the same as a P3, except for the cover.

The Signature 25 is the same as the Contour, but with a different cabinet i think. At first, i thought it came in another finish.

Excuse my ignorance, but i don't know what a 5x is, i know about Nait 5i and 5, but not the 5x. 5i without HT upgradability, i guess? And not all Naits came without a phono preamp, my Nait 2 have it.

When I was talking about the 5x I meant in terms of the cdp rather than the nait. There is no nait 5x (yet.......)

Naits up to 3r had the option of a phono stage. However, with the introduction of the 5 series, you needed the stageline (or some other external stage).

The 'rogue' item in the picture is the Star Wars DVD box set, nothing too interesting I'm afraid.

I'd never had a dem as such on the rack with my kit, however, I had heard them both at the Bristol show, so I was aware of the difference between the ref and non ref racks. I was going to buy the Fraim but I really like the look of the Q4 and I am impressed with the sound of it too, so there are not any regrets there.

I wonder if the Xbox sounds better than the Gamecube. And do anyone else here have their gaming sound throught their Naim gears? I do with PC games sometimes.
