To be honest, I very rarely use the Xbox and Gamecube, so I wouldn't really be able to comment on which of the two has better audio. I used to be quite into them, the Xbox is fully modded with 120GB HD etc.

I do have my Sky+ box running through the system and that works really well.

Oh, and I'm glad you appreciate my bold design flair on the curtains They are not as bright as they look in the photo.

Out of interest, have you tried comparing the sound of the cd run through the 32.5's tuner input as opposed the aux input? The tuner input is the best sounding one on the pre-amp.

Hi Tam,
yes, I' ve tried with my Chord Cobra 2 RCA-->DIN through tuner input, but I found better ( for my taste, my music and my system) Solid 2 RCA-->RCA through Aux input with "a kind of " straight line boards.....
I know many of you prefer the cheapest Cobra 2 than more expensive Solid 2, but........

Fair enough. Each to his own.

I did audition the genki when I was buying a new cd player a few months back and I was quite tempted - it's nice player, I just like the 5x a little better. But, as with all these things, it's all a matter of personal taste.

Thought it looked familiar. I have converted a couple of their smaller ones into lights using those 12V picture spotlights. That looks like one of their larger versions purpose built as a light (minus the bulb).

Hi Tam,
I do believe 5x ( I never listened to it) is better than Genki. But I compared Genki with Naim CD3.5 instead of cd 5 or 5x ( budget problem..) and I choose it.
Cobra 2 vs. Solid 2 : to be continued, it depends on what music I'm listening to ( or how bad I wake up in the morning )
Anyway, after an hi-cap for my delicious nac 32.5, I think the best next step could be a CDX ( or CD1 or CD2 )....
What do you think about ?

I think you're thinking along the right lines there. I love my (recently acquired and serviced) 32.5. My next upgrade is going to be a hicap (since my 32.5 is currently sharing its power supply with my tuner), but after that I'll probably be looking to the source (I slightly regret not having looked at the cdx2 when I got my 5x. That said, the genki does different things to naim players, so you may just prefer that. What you need is to have a listen.

Hello again....

You are right Steve, we stumbled across the wee shop in Kaikoura high street and the owners wife was very welcoming, and have been excellent since as they shipped them across from NZ once we got back from our honeymoon.
The pottery is crafted by her husband - they had the smaller designs too, with similar psychedelic paint jobs, being used as light fittings and vases etc. The drivers are sourced and fitted by her son, who has used the acoustic chamber at his uni to modify the design, and sound...
We were wandering round the shop and I was wondering where the soothing jazz was coming from.....and then I spotted them!
Feed them jazz/blues and the like, female vocals especially and they really sing!
The tweeter planted down the neck works really well, imho of course, although not sure about the low stuff as they struggled slightly with massive attack, but hey, they look fucking cool, so they got Alison's vote, and mine!

Never thought I'd go on honeymoon to the other side of the globe and buy a pair of speakers!!

It's getting ripped up when we decorate the room.....

They weren't doing speakers when I was last down there. I imagine the material they use would make a very good speaker cabinet material, very rigid, very heavy and excellent damping.

Yeah, look funky and sound great too!

We were up for it the minute we spotted them....to be honest they could have sounded crap and I still would have wanted them.....ok, maybe not, but the fact hey sound so good is a huge bonus!

Hard to get an idea of scale from the pics but they stand about, dunno, just under two feet...

Perhaps I should visit them again next time I go down to Marlborough to visit my brother.

Not that I have, or am likely to get, a HT system, but they might make very good HT rear speakers. Sort of there ready to do the job when required but in the mean time not looking like just more electronic clutter.

Really Naimers! It's got to get better than this! Photos of your kit on racks?!?! At least try and give the illusion we're not all anoraks. What does an out-of-focus photo of your naim kit achieve? Nothing. But it does proove there's very little rationale, moderation or objectivism going on in this forum. Especially, I've noticed, amongst senior members.....

Please stop trolling. If you look through the 56 pages this thread runs to, you'll find a lot of photos, the vast majority of very high quality.

I'm a little curious as to how one out of focus picture proves that nothing rational or objective goes on here.

That said, Nuno, even I could do better than that with my camera phone (and I was embarrassed at the quality of those pictures).
