It's a granite slab. I have a suspended wooden floor and these seem to work too good effect under floorstanders.

Very simple.
There is a lead that connect between the preamp's power supply signal out to the sub. (the one on the forefront ) If I were running a stereo sub, I would use up the last DIN out )

I'm using just one sub with the SL2 ( no room for another ) and set up was easier than I expected since there aren't many places I could place the sub in the room.
Mainly the space from the back wall and distance between the speakers were the only things I could play around with.
The manual starting point was helpful, but the rest I had to adjust by ear moving it around an inch by inch ( if you are anal, half an inch. )
The Fraim chips underneath help, too.

Xover and level adjustments are done from the listening position with a supplied remote.

Just out of interest to us sub freaks what crossover frequency do you have the sub set at?

I must admit it all looks rather nice in black and warns you that it can be an "evil"sounding system when it wants to be!

Hi Nigel,

The SL2's are fanatstic speakers! I can't stay away from them. It's a long weekend over here and I'll be putting off all those other things that I'm supposed to be doing. These speakers to me sound very different to my Allaes. They seem to have a more serious grown up nature to them. The Allaes are still very good, they are lots of fun, but the SL2's have this fun factor with a refinement that I makes you feel very privileged. They are super fast, in the same way that those old flat earth Kans and SBL's used to be. Now with respect to the bass, well if it's on the disc, there's a truck load of low frequency information presented to the listener. If it's not there, these speakers will not add any warmth to give the impression of more bass. At the moment the only thing that I notice occasionally is a bit of sibilance. I'm not sure if the speakers are still very new as the dealer has not had them for long, but maybe other areas of set up like a real fraim instead of a cloaned one may help reduce this.

I'm glad you like the SL2s - they are great speakers and will fit with your system really well. They are enormously revealing and will show the benefits of amp upgrades really well, should you ever decide to improve things. I'm running mine with 552/300 now and the system does everything I want.

A real Fraim would make good sense for you and would bring out the best in your excellent system.

Interesting CD rack. Presumably it grips cases well enough to stop you worrying about 'fallout'?

Are you getting a good sound in your new abode?

How far are the SBL's from the back wall?

A friend came over, and we did some tweaking with my Strata5. It ended up square in the corner facing out toward the listener (as opposed to diagonally) - in phase, and the crossover set at 18Hz. Gain is set at 25, so it's pretty subtle but is integrating with my (still running in) Allaes very nicely.

I won two of these racks on ebay and used to be made by some fancy company online.

They weight about 15 KG each and are very well made. The premis is simple, the cuts are exactly deep enough for CD cases and does a fine job. I bought them one for my computer CDs and the one you see for currently playing cds.

They are gorgeous, but for the life of me I havn't seen anything else like it anywhere.

I would imagine with the right wood and a router it would not be a difficult task.

As for the sound. The room benefits from around 3 foot walls so the sound is very solid, no boom to speak of and you can go loud without things moving.

The cartridge on the deck has died though, which is frustrating because with the move, sale of the 52 and getting a stageline I havn't really had a great session with the deck. I am getting to the stage where I am tempted to flog it, carts just don't last long enough!

The sbls sit a little way from the wall, placement is perhaps not ideal but the room will allow nothing else, and as I say the sound is lovely anyways.

John...are you sure you don't mean 28Hz? At 18Hz it would be so subtle you would'nt hear anything at all!

My stampede is part way down a side wall straight on and about 2" out from the wall. The setting is 26 Hz and Gain of 47 (the remote control settings are different values from the manual twist knobs).

Don't forget that there is a degree of roll-off. It's still producing output above 18Hz.

Plus; my room is acoustically weird in the bass anyway.

The grunt from the sub is still clearly audible.

just noticed the cd storage rack on the wall in the recent system pics on gari's post. Does anyone know where I can buy one and a rough price?
A couple of these on my back wall would be perfect in my small room, but would also be a excellent

I have seen similar ones in one of those cheap shops ,About £7 or £9 .Ill check it out later today & get back to you!

There are cheap things available, but they ain't gonna weigh 15 kgs.

As I say these were begin sold by a private seller on ebay, I got them both because I havn't seen anything like them elsewhere. As I say though with a router you could probably have a go.

Don't plumb for metal attempts because it could have a poor effect ina small room, all those bits of wire vibrating!

They are not square like garyis ,but are single blocks ,each block will hold 18 single CDs & 2 double CDs at the outragerous price of £1.25.
they are made for Poundsretcher of all places ,
Headquarters at Knowsthorpe Gate, Cross Green Inds Est,Leeds LS9 ONP you could put as many on your wall as you needed if you paint them black everyone will think they are expensive!

thanks for the info and help. Cross Green is not that far from where I live, so I will check it out on wednesday. Is the headquaters a shop as well? Or is it best to go to a poundstrecher store? There is a small one in crossgates, but the main one is in the town centre. This will be very interesting because I am really using this as a diffuser.
