Toasters

First I must aplogise for another boring "which product is best?" type of posting. I must also apologise for posting about what is, undoubtedly, a boring type of product. Thirdly, I aplogise for bringing up another of those "lifestyle" type yuppie products, but what the f*** - here goes;

I'm fed up with my el-cheapo Russel Hobbs toaster, it burns one side of the bread and leaves the other underdone, it is also a total PITA to retrieve small prandial objects (i.e. muffins or crumpets) without getting burned. Would a Dualit be much better or are they just for pose value?

My uncle Leslie was a good toaster, particularly at weddings Big Grin

Wot you really, really want is one of those long fork things that you spear the bread on and then toast it to your individual taste and satisfaction in front of a blazing log fire. Much more reliable and more personally fulfilling than trusting to some new fangled piece of electronic gadgetry.

Making toast in front of the fire - Mmmm, I really miss that aspect of my childhood Smile

Yes, I remember making toast on the fire (and testing almost every household object for flammability) - great fun, but adding a fireplace and chimney to my house will be even more expensive than a Dualit.

You were lucky. We couldn't afford to have a fire when I was a child.

Rowenta does some nice stuff

We have the white kettle thingy but beware they range starts at £90 for the kettle, and about a ton for the Toaster.

This is proper life style stuff though.

iGary,

If Apple designed a Kettle it would look like that Rowenta ketttle. I am sure it's no coincidence!

BLT - I have a Dualit and its very good. After a while it will start doing your toast unevenly but you can buy replacement grills to restore it to its former glory. The best thing about it though is it's got no stupid pop up device which I always found irritating.
