Two shockingly good birthday CDs

Posted by: Shayman on 20 September 2004

1. Jeff Buckley - Live at Sin-e (Legacy Edn)
2. Vic Chesnutt - Drunk (New version with extra tracks)

Great recordings both. Anyone into these two artists who don't yet have these titles are in for an absolute treat.

The Jeff Buckley album is a snapshot of a genius at work if you ask me. Good as Grace is and Mystery White Boy is as a live stadium performance, Sin-e is as close as I've ever heard to the recreation of an intimate venue performance in your own living room. His voice is not of this earth at times.

Vic chesnutt. Great recordings of by far the most consistent album of his that I've got. This new 2004 version also comes with about 12 new tracks. Now thats not to be sniffed at surely.

Both highly recommended. Fantastic evenings listening.

Thanks for the Buckley rec; I've been looking at that one myself. Does yours the "bonus DVD"? Curious about that part.

If you get a chance, check out "Live from the Bataclan", a four-song live ep recorded in Paris. I feel about that one the way you seem to feel about this one. He took a lot of chances when he performed, and when it worked, it was stunning. What a tremendous loss.

Jeff Buckley "Grace" is a great album, I will be checking out the Sin-e recommendation as well.

There is simply not enough Vic Chesnutt on this forum. All of the reissues are excellent and anyone looking for a "way in" should try "Sweet Relief II" wherein various artists cover Vic songs for his benefit and you leave convinced that

a) he is a major talent,

b) it is possible to have a great covers album, and,

c) there is not enough Mary Margaret O'Hara on this forum.

Anyone interested in seeing Vic live should go see him support Cowboy Junkies on their current British tour.

Having purchased Live at Sin-e I agree totaly with Shayman on this. Raw, inspired and full of emotion, pure genius.

The legacy edition consists of two cds and a DVD. The DVD contains an interview with Jeff and 3 tracks recorded at Sin-e. Although short in duration the DVD gives you enough of a feel about Jeff and the fascination he had for playing at Sin-e.

Surprised there has been so little feed back on this thread from you all!
