I have a go at this:
In think in the US, we are increasingly fed up with white-collar crime due to the recent high-profile cases like Enron and Tyco. I think the average person is pissed off that people with millions (and sometimes billions) of dollars are juicing the system in thier favor. Ten years ago I think you'd find more ambivalence on the issue.
Funny, this sort of thing may be playing some part in the election (BTW, today marks the first day in about 3 months that Kerry has the lead on the electoral vote count
http://www.electoral-vote.com/ ) with the dems hammering on Halliburton and such. I think this sort of corporate hubris is part and parcel of this administration's republican
gestalt.
In any event, I saw a report last night on "camp cupcake" and it will be no picknik. Martha will have to clean toilets, or mow laws, or sweep hallways. Sometime today (or this morning) she was made to strip down and submit to a cavity search. She will probably bunk in a large room on a metal bunk-bed and will be issues two sheets and one blanket.
From what I saw, it didn't look fun. Most of us could handle it, I'm guessing. But I can only imagine what it would be like for somebody who is used to a biddet.
