P2P networks

Is it possible to join one of these "communities" without getting done over by adware, spyware, viruses etc ? If so which one should I join ? I want to download music for my iPod on the basis that if I like it I'll buy the CD and if I don't, I'll nuke it.

Or this naughty ?

that's entirely sensible but the record companies would have you locked up - you're meant to buy all their excellent offerings without listening to them first.

Someone once told me that eDonkey may be worth a look but make sure you don't install all the extra cr*p that comes with it.

EMule uses the EDonkey network but without the adware spyware crap. Its a pretty good little search machine too.

Emule

Also recommend you get the VLC player and the plug in as this can read the half downloaded files (so you can abort incorrectly name downloads)

I use limewire without problems

Emule has received good feedback from the P2P community, but it seems to be incompatible with the ZoneAlarm firewall (which I installed at the recomendation of someone on this forum and has been otherwise flawless).

So, I installed Limewire, which seem to be quite fast.

Cheer,

WinMX, or good old Usenet.
