Earthing

A while back i had earthing problems (leading to audbile hum through my speakers), so the guys at Naim suggested using the TT binding post to earth the preamp to my ac socket (this worked really well - but later i found out it was a faulty snaic at fault).
However, i still leave the TT earth connected, and at the moment i don't want to start experimenting on/off benefits, as i'm still getting used to some recent upgrades.
Anyone, tried this, doing this ???

What is a TT post? 
And how did you connect it to the mains a/c earth (via a standard mains plug?)
