Women?

Can men be 'just friends' with women? in a platonic way?
I think they can but it's difficult, partners can get jealous, sometimes there are ulterior motives and sometimes one or either parties 'wants more'...
What do people here think ?

FWIW I think you're to be congratulated for sticking with it. Looking at some of the posts in The Padded Cell I can't think why you would. I don't think it's so much X vs Y as grown ups vs silly children. We're all Naimheads, I wish it would stop there.

It is a regrettable fact that some men are running scared of women because of their recent success in the job markets etc. Women are no longer prepared to be societies underdogs.
These inadequate men retaliate by coming out with cheap sexist drivel and that just demonstrates what a bunch of brain dead bums they are. They cannot remember that they have mothers, sisters and aunts etc and the word respect is well off their agenda.
They would be better off using the new competition of women as a stimulent to improve themselves, work harder and make the world a much better place to live in.
That is too difficult for them and they will have no one but themselves to blame when they are one day joining the dole queues.
The word Luddite comes to mind.
Regards
Mick

Mick,
With respect this thread has bugger all to do with the workplace. It's more about whether men and women can have successful platonic relationships - it's about whether we can play nicely not work hard.
Of course men and women can play nicely as long as one isn't trying to exploit the other in order to gratify their ego.
Regards,
Steve.

I find it deeply ironic that we are all sat hear trying to gain the moral high ground about platonic relationships. We are typing on a fucking computer day in day out.
I saw around 12 blokes on the way past Heathrow today with their bins looking at the planes coming in.
I couldn't help but draw the comparison.

Yanno what with one thing and another I'd lost sight of that.
In my experience yes, defenitely. For what that's worth. Sorry to drag it back onto topic.

My mate thought it was hillarious anyway and she should know, fortunately we're mainly emancipated over here, depending on ones personality and character naturally, which is what the whole affair boils down to once again with a touch of respect, there is no secret, you've either got it or you ain't, Basta.

Since most of us Naim-Forum-Visitors are men the question to my ears sounds like "are men able to have platonic relationships"... But then we also have to ask how many women can have a platonic relationship with a man. I think they can, but often they can't resist to play a little bit, especially if they discover that they do attract that man... So, do you think it's easier for men or for women?

Hi UV,
I didn't miss the point, and I'm sorry if I offended you in any way.
I understand perfectly where you're coming from.
all I meant was that forums such as this are largely male domains, and what's written in the padded cell in particular shouldn't be taken seriously.
people often write stuff just to get a reaction, and what's written is not necessarily representative of their true beliefs.
it's just boys being boys!
btw, as far as I'm concerned, it's good to see a female here for a change.
I just hope you're thick-skinned enough to take the banter!

Does the same apply to all races and religions, not to mention age groups and sexual orientations? Or are you just marginalising women?
Just curious.

harry,
it applies to EVERYONE.
this is an internet forum, for goodness sake.
a good one at that, though!
it's not real life.
if you always take what's written here seriously, then you're either daft, or just sad

harry,
it wasn't intended as an insult.
I was making an observation.
I think the term 'chill out' is applicable once more!
