MP3 Players

Posted by: seagull on 28 October 2004

Its seagull jr's birthday next month and he wants an MP3 player.

I don't know anything about these things. I'd be very grateful for any recommendations or experiences with them.

Any recommended models, or ones to avoid?
What features should I look for?
How much is it worth spending on one?
Any good legal web-sites for MP3 downloads?

Bear in mind this is for an image conscious teenager so the 'wrong' brand could be a disaster.

If he is remotely brand concious then you have to buy an iPod of some sort -- just adjust the size according to budget.

Anything else and you will be just like my Mum who insisted that the trainers she bought me from her Littlewood's cataloguie were idenitical to Adidas Kick -- a stance that was to lead to my utter humiliaton and profound pyschological scars.

When they start to buy their own stuff suddenly sale items look good to them though.

Re MP3 players how long does it take to load up 5000+ tunes and does anyone actually need that many?

I would find it hard not to suggest an ipod.

Less than 10 mins via firewire - and since I uploaded everything I own I haven't connected it to my PC again - so yes its nice to have that much room.

Which one was 'this'? I tried the link and it came back with a 'this page has timed out' message.

I think a pink one would be good for a laugh though! Right brand wrong colour Big Grin

A U2 iPod?!? I remember when they were good (c 1981)

Bummer - well in any case it was the U2 iPod. On second thoughts, though, they have been around a long time. Just exactly how image concious is your son?

I use a creative Muvo 20gig mp3 player. Its about the same size as a portable CD player and comes with a good software bundle. Best thing is it was alot cheaper than the Ipod - but sure it doesnt have the looks...
