Grabbing mail from Yahoo?

Posted by: garyi on 11 November 2004

On the yahoo website it says I can grab my mail from yahoo in my usual mail application, in this Case OSX's mail application.

Well I have followed the instructions carefully and set up the account, but it does not work.

Neither does it work in Entorage or Eudora.

Is there something I am missing, for instance I have set it up in pop, but it says on the web pop3?

I thought yahoo only let you use pop3 if you had one of the paid accounts?

The question one might ask is, why on earth would you want to do it. My Yahoo inbox just accumulates SPAM - seems to be a magnet for it! On that basis I'd rather not download all that rubbish into my already overloaded pop3 mailbox but YMMV I spose Smile

PS: I think Paul may be right!

Paid for?

I didn't realise that but it gives clear instructions from within my account about how to collect it.

I have never had any spam into my yahoo account, and as we are moving at the end of the month it will be my only email for a while

Well, if and when Apple bother to send me my imac I might be able to help with the OS X specifics, but generally pop3 just needs a server, username and password and you're away.

Most clients will come back with some sort of error code if there's a problem - nothing there?

FWIW if anyone's looking for a good, free email provider, www.gmx.net are worth a go, though it takes a little patience due to all that pesky German!

Still waiting Paul?

I would have thought it would be in the bag by now as I have played with them in John Lewis.

Give the buggers a call!

They ballsed up basically, tried to put a hold on the money soon after I placed the order, and then again on the ship date - as it'd go over my card limit Amex refused the second hold and Apple just cancelled the order, no phone call, nothing, which was kind of them Roll Eyes

The one point of redemption is that when I called to ask what was going on the chap re-placed the order, put it on a "priority 1" and rather loosely applied the student discount, so I get about £130 off, and marked the order such that if I call when it arrives I'm entitled to a "goodwill gesture".

Just hope it's worth the wait!

20", airport, bluetooth kb/mouse and 2x512mb DIMMs - I've read of so many problems with after market RAM in G5 imacs, even "the best" like Crucial/Kingston that it didn't seem worth the hassle as I think the price difference would have been £17.

At least I now know not to try to delete the system folder Winker

cheers,
