New CD 5 thoughts and question

Posted by: Cletus Awreetus-Awrightus on 22 December 2000

Had the cd5 and Nait 5 for a few days now, firstly when I close the drawer, just before it shuts, it seems to come into contact with something internally and makes a disconcerting 'flap' or 'light clunk' for want of a better description. Is this normal?
Otherwise it is sounding better daily, on good days the music seems to flow out and surround me, on bad days it just seems to come quite obviously straight at me from the speakers. Sounds better louder, doesn't compress, but I like to listen quietish, smaller speakers help?
I currently use mission 753 F's from a previous system which I will look to change in the new year, poss Sonus Faber or the smaller proac 1.8 or 1SC which technically constitutes a mullet system. Care!
As for looks I was/am a big fan of the old(?) look but I am coming round to the new styling. 'Shock of the new' my wife tells me. The buttons are dead cute and I've even come to admire the logo!
Happy Christmas to all.

Don't know if it's normal, but mine certainly does it too!

I think it is just the slack on the ribbon cable connected to the drawer on the inside rearranging itself inside the case as you compress its curve by shutting the drawer. On mine it is usually evident to some extent, but is more noticable the more slowly one shuts the drawer.

Beginning of the third week is when it starts to really sing!

Its a ribbon cable that connects the servo to the main board, as you close it is touching the base. THe ribbon has shifted position and needs to be re-dressed to avoid this. Sorry really boring. It does no harm and does not touch anything in play position.
Your dealer can re-form this cable or we can if it bugs you!
