HiFi Choice issue 238
Posted by: arf005 on 16 September 2004
Folks.
I've been trying to purchase a back issue of HFC issue 238 for their review of the CDX2. I was told this morning that there would be no more re-prints as it was back in Feb2002.
Now I know I could just follow the advice/reviews/comments on this here fine forum, think I've done this already anyway, but I'd like to see what HFC said about it.....
Does anyone have this issue...??
If so I doubt if you would want to part with it, but would it be possible to send me a photocopy or e mail me a scan of the review.....

Cheers,
Ali

I never buy hifi mags and haven't bought one for years. Except I did buy that one, but I don't keep magazines. Except that I found that one in a cupboard when looking for the Ikea catalogue to get a new sofa for when Oldie & the boys come round for an evening of listening, but I put it in the recycle bin. Except that isn't collected until tomorrow - so I will hook it out and scan it for you. PT me your email address. I'll do it this evening.

In case Rasher's arms aren't long enough to reach far enough into the recyle bin
the latest issue of Hifi Choice has a review of CDX2/252/Super/250 into B&W 805 Sigs - might be worth a gander.

After all that it wasn't the right mag. It was a CDS3 & XPS2 review. Damn.
I trawled the net but no luck.
Back to anyone else who can help. Maybe next time I should make sure beforehand.

I read that article Jon. It was just a lift from the spec sheet and a bit PR babble (pretty much what's on the Naim Website) - rather disappointing really - but nice pictures. There was some good stuff in that issue though. I don't buy them often but I wanted to see what they made of the CD5i - they loved it!
Cheers

Hi-fi reveiws are always worth a read, but there is no substitute for hearing it with your own ears and making your own mind up.

Harry,
I actually finished reading the article myself last night! I agree, not enough about the sound quality/general performance of the system. I guess I was just seduced by the stunning pics

I have the article you want and will try scanning it to send as a file.
It is by paul messenger who generally favors NAIM kit and as I recall quite likes the bare CDX2 but he also added the XPS2 and felt that was the thing that made the difference, so be warned it leads towards the CDS3.
Still want to read it?
