Until say two years ago, this forum was the king of kings. It had interesting discussions and attracted a wide variety of contributors which enriched the scene considerably. The discussion were always heated but the general standard was good.
The main competitor was the Mana forum which was ruined by one individual and all the good contributors have since left it, leaving it virtually comatose.
Zerogain is ok but basically mediocre.
If you care to dig out some of the old postings, you will find that a lot of the good posters are now over on PFM.
The Naim forum is obviously centred around Naim but PFM is more generalist but it does seem to be divided by a Naim v the rest and a Mana v the rest type of discussion which is not particulary healthy but despite that, it is growing.
A forum is a living thing, new members come and old members move on. The guys who dominated it yesterday are just history today and that is how it should be.
What one would hope for is that the quality of contributor would remain about level but the recent influx of certain individuals has resulted in some of the better members departing to PFM where it is rapidly catching up with the Naim forum.
I started the same thread on both fora a couple of weeks ago entitled Naim v ATC speakers. The standard of debate on the PFM forum brought this one to shame mainly because there is a total lack of knowledge and experience here.
If you have some spare time just read it and you will see what I mean. Six month ago, the responses from the Naim forum would have wiped the floor with the PFM ones, but not today. I find it very sad.
Regards
Mick

Interesting reading. (Perhaps not argumentative enough for this particular thread.)
Watching how things happen in forum discussions has given me a great deal to reflect upon with respect to communication. Forums have never been something I've known about - I came across this forum while on Naim's main site after looking at everything else - my internet usage has focused mainly on email and I'm pretty inert when it comes to new things.
I'd best get off to bed. Hope you have a good afternoon listening to speakers.

Bollocks little mick!
I find the "HiFi Corner" forum a completely shallow product-loyalty-basting circus most of the time. Little of a technical nature ever surfaces. It's mostly comparative, personal anecdotal evidence by owners of Naim boxes. With little of real substance for anyone with more than a fortight's experience of hifi ad music reproduction.
It is obvious, to me at least, that blind testing and discussion of anything remotely technical are sneered at as too "round earth". By this means the Naim devotees need never question their loyalty to the official/unnoficial upgrade path and their expenditure to date.
The Music Rooom is full of marginal, short-lived band names I'll never remember and probably never find a CD taster if I could. Most of the threads consist of short personal recommendations with little apparent regard to context. Classical is barely or rarely touched.
The Padded Cell is full variety with much humour, whether intended or not. The few irritations are easily overlooked and as easily overcome by more humour, intelligent or otherwise.
A search will prove that "Chav" is now the most commonly used word and most popular with manic-depressive owners of CDS3s.

Last night I just missed my train home by two minutes and exclaimed:- 'that is so chav!!!'.
Does this make me fashionable?

I rather liked the headline "Clasic chav types" [sic] on an anti-chav website.
