What is the strangest album you've spent money on?I own Zappa's Lumpy Gravy but the wife and kids won't let me play it.I used to have 'An Evening With Wild Man Fischer'-that was odd very odd indeed.

Well yes, David, quite. White Noise might have been a smidgeon weird in 1969, but if one can't spot ground breaking avant le deluge stuff from the perspective of 2004, then frankly there's little hope for one. Delia Derbyshire did the Dr Who theme and then after a suitable swig of gin went on to that - gobsmacking doesn't even begin to cover it - and the cover's luminous - what more do you want?

Can't say I remember there being much in the way of tunes...

I've heard other things by the Radiophonic people that I liked, this just wasn't one of them. The weirdness quota was definitely upped significantly by the Black Mass track.

I'm sure it was pretty ground-breaking stuff in 1969 (given the expressed lineage with some of the other electronic experiments across Europe in the 70s), but 'fraid it didn't do it for me at all.
